Bringing Leadership Agility to Agile

Bill Joiner

Agile can transform software development teams – and other kinds of teams – in amazing ways. As Agile has taken hold and proven its worth, people are seeing the need and opportunity for something more: The development of agile organizations. To do this, we need a new kind of “leadership culture” at the senior and middle management levels. What’s needed isn’t simply the application of Agile methods in management teams. We need leaders who have the capacity to think and act at higher levels of agility. In this presentation, Bill Joiner will introduce us to three “levels” of leadership agility that emerged from extensive research on the leadership needed in today’s highly complex, rapidly changing business environment. Going beyond previous conceptions of agile leadership, he will introduce us to the rarely practiced “Catalyst” level of leadership agility and how it can be applied to the larger challenges posed by today’s Agile initiatives.

About the speaker:

With the publication of the award-winning book, Leadership Agility, Bill Joiner has become a sought-after international thought leader on the subject of agile leadership. Over the past four years, he has given dozens of talks and presentations on Leadership Agility for corporations, universities, and professional associations (including Agile associations). Bill is a seasoned leadership and organization development consultant with over 30 years of experience completing successful projects with companies based in the US, Canada, and Europe. He is president of ChangeWise?, a Boston-area firm that partners with senior leaders to create high performing teams, design and implement organizational changes, and transform leadership culture. ChangeWise? also provides workshops and action learning programs that enhance leadership agility. Bill is the originator of the Leadership Agility 360, a next-generation online feedback tool co-designed and hosted with Cambria Consulting.
